David Guez (born 1954, Tunisia) is a self-taught artist based in Jerusalem with an inspiring trajectory in contemporary painting. Guez’s painting practice is characterized by his unique approach to gestural compositions, which he brings to life using oil on canvas. His artistic trajectory has gained international acclaim, and his practice is compared with Art Autre, an American school also referred to as Informal Art.
Guez’s artwork has been presented in solo exhibitions at venues such as D&M Gallery and Rothschild 49 Gallery in Tel Aviv, Fairmont Monte Carlo in Monaco, and in significant group exhibitions such as 'Personal Structures REFLECTIONS', an Official Collateral Event of the Venice Biennale organized by the European Cultural Centre at Palazzo Bembo in 2022.
Guez has this whole American tradition of Informal Art behind him. Seventy years later, he still manages to make the poetic unease of abstract imagery float, intriguing us and proving that it is still possible to create a narrative through red, green, white, and blue, as if pictorial writing could perhaps be infinite.

The yellow surface reminded him of his black expanses. Overall, from the depths of your painting emanated a mystical ambience. As for the boat which floats on the yellow expanse, it evokes for him De Staël.

There is both timelessness and immediacy. Each abstract mark is an expression, an expulsion of energy, a statement. Like a Morse code, Guez creates a visual language through mark making, conveying his own personality, psychological state and commentary on the world we live in.

The work is very beautiful. It’s really attractive and I think intelligent abstraction.

We all took a close look at David, we like him, he has an immediate impact on those who view his works. I do see a lot of artists every day and define him as minimalist, few signs, but identifiable and very aesthetic.

David Guez has the heritage of conscience, which is a virtuous means revealing the Arcanum as a canvas painted in essential, warm and meaningful colors. If anything, it refers us to the strokes of Mark Rothko, a masterful point of reference for Informal Expressionism; and from his Wisdom Abstraction David Guez has picked up the tangled skein in order to unravel it.
